HU ANNOUNCES HOMECOMING 2004 ACTIVITIES

Hampton, VA - Hampton University will host an exciting Homecoming 2004 with a weekend of activities scheduled for Friday, Nov. 5 - Sunday, Nov. 7.

The Hampton Pirates look to win the homecoming football game against Bethune-Cookman College on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2:00 p.m. The Pirates won last year's homecoming game with a 32-12 victory over South Carolina State University. The newly crowned Miss Hampton University, Anita Blanton, will be officially introduced at Saturday's game.

The weekend's events are as scheduled:

Friday, November 5, 2004:

  • BAZAAR - 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Located outside of the Student Center. Admission is free.

  • HAMPTON UNIVERSITY FALL ALUMNI GOLF TOURNAMENT - Starting at Noon, The Hamptons Golf Course, 320 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. To participate, contact Burl Bowens (757) 727-5503 or (757) 727-5303. The deadline for entries is Nov. 1.

  • FREEDOM SCHOONER AMISTAD TOUR - 5 p.m. - 7 p.m., Located at the waterfront side of the Radisson Hotel in downtown Hampton, VA. The event includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and entertainment. Tickets are $25 with proceeds benefiting the Hampton University sailing team. Contact Carolyn Grant at 757-377-5504 for tickets or more information.

  • ALUMNI HOSPITALITY - 6:30 p.m. - 1:30 a.m., Hampton University Student Center Ballroom. The Hampton Chapter will host the event. Food and beverages will be provided. A $5 donation is requested.

Saturday, November 6, 2004:

  • HOMECOMING PARADE - 10 a.m., Armistead Ave and Settlers Landing Road

  • MAJOR DONOR RECEPTION - Noon, Student Center, Cyber Lounge. The event is by invitation only.

  • FOOTBALL GAME - 2 p.m., Hampton University vs. Bethune-Cookman College

  • "DRESS TO IMPRESS" HOMECOMING DANCE - Hampton University, Student Center Ballroom. The Hampton Chapter will sponsor the event; set-ups and snacks will be available. Tickets cost $20.

Sunday, November 7, 2004

  • WORSHIP SERVICE - 11 a.m., Memorial Church

  • HU CHOIR CONCERT - 3 p.m., Memorial Church

  • JAZZ BRUNCH - 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., University Museum, "Touch of Spice" will provide the musical entertainment. Admission is $10 students, $25 alumni, $30 day of the event. Please RSVP by Nov. 1 to Vanessa Thaxton-Ward at (757) 727-5508.
