HU loses high rank for technology
Date: October 26 2004

After tying for sixth last year, Hampton University dropped off The Princeton Review's list of "most connected campuses."
This fall's technology scorecards, published on Forbes.com , incorporated several new factors that HU did not meet: feeds to online newsgroups, computers included in tuition and multi-media equipment provided by the school.
HU's rating also slipped because streaming media and courses in emerging technologies ended, and plans to branch out into hand-held computing have not materialized.
The university maintained a ratio of one computer for every three students, a campus-wide data network, online courses and other criteria that earned the sixth-place spot in 2003. On that list, HU placed higher than any other Virginia schools polled.
Last year's recognition came after a four-year drive to modernize campus technology. In 2000, HU appeared on a similar list from the now-defunct Yahoo Internet Life magazine.
This year, HU is unranked among 357 colleges, The Princeton Review polled.
