Candidate for President: Michelle Gipson

For the past 8 years, I have been an entrepreneur and adjunct professor. Prior to that I worked as the Director of Advertising for two national publications and contract negotiations for a telecommunications firm.

I have a BA and MA from Hampton University and hold certifications from Stanford University and Harvard University.

My community involvement includes working on the hospitality, political action, leadership development and cotillion committees for Lambda Epsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As a board member for Inroads Atlanta, I worked on fundraising committee, sponsorship recruitment and intern development.

For the local NHAA chapter, I was the student recruitment chair and began the GA Peaches to VA Beaches meet and greet for incoming freshmen to Hampton. I began the High School Day bus trip and assisted with the annual choir trip fundraiser.  For the past 20 years, I have served as the class leader for 1994, organizing reunions activities and raising money for the school.

It would be an honor and a privilege to serve as president of the Atlanta chapter. Thank you for your consideration.

Tamara Ewing

Why do I want to serve?

Simply stated, I want to serve the “Real HU”, the school that I fell in love with and had ties to since 2000.  Matriculating at Hampton University as a finance major allowed me to form lifelong relationships and has opened the doors for many job opportunities.  With these opportunities, I have worked in finance specifically as an auditor including working for the Inspector General at the DPH for the state of GA. Serving as a treasurer for the Atlanta Hampton Alumni chapter would allow me to tie in my background of finance with knowledge, communication, and strategy and planning which are essential elements for any organization.  These essential elements are needed for a successful and enterprising treasurer.

Past office/volunteer positions:

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities that I am currently or gladly served in the past:

  • Mentor for Meeting of the Hearts in DeKalb County
  • Hosea Feed the Hungry –volunteer
  • Atlanta Hampton Alumni-various capacities
  • Chicago Cares-Team Coordinator and Project Site Manager
  • Volunteer, Biloxi, Mississippi and New Orleans, LA
